Analysis of Paris Hilton Interview
- He knew his audience, he ignored her movie, etc, and knew the kind of questions they wanted answered
- He is well aware that the majority of people feel she has garnered fame and fortune from virtually no talent or actually skill. Most people are resentful of this.
- He researched and understood who was interviewing, and adapted his style to that.
- He talked about topics such as prison food, just to make her uncomfortable.
- He fed off his audience, and asked questions he knew they wanted answered
- He knew his limits, and switched to a more comfortable topic of her being a “role model” to young America, though no one does (the beautiful irony), just to keep her from rudely leaving the stage.
- He asked useless questions just to get a reaction from her
- He knew bringing her to tears wouldn’t do a thing for his career, nor the shows’ ratings.
- Even when she told him directly that she wanted to change the subject from jail, he refused, saying that’s all he wanted to talk about, and he continued to.
- He maintained control of interview by looking her right in the eyes for every question
- Even when someone in the audience screamed “I love you, Paris!”, Letterman quipped “One of your cell mates?” as if to imply she has no fans.
- He followed up each question with a lead-in from the last answer, for the most part.
- Even when she was talking about things that she was interested in, he purposely showed no interest what so ever.
- He started laughing before even the audience did
- He drank some of her “perfume” to show he has no respect for it. Obviously, it was replaced with something else.
- He observed her body language.
